LOCATION:In the province of Zaragoza, and occupies the Ebro valley covering 14 municipal areas: Aguarón, Aladrén, Alfamén, Almonacid de la Sierra, Alpartir, Cariñena, Cosuenda, Encinacorba, Longares, Mezalocha, Muel, Paniza, Tosos and Villanueva de Huerva.
CLIMATE:
A continental climate, with cold winters, hot summers and low rainfall. The viticulture is also influenced by the effect of the ‘Cierzo’.
SOIL:
Mainly poor; either brownish – grey limey soil, or reddish dun soil settled on rocky deposits, or brownish – grey soil settled on alluvial deposits. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of between 400 and 800 m.
GRAPE VARIETIES:
White: Preferred: Macabeo (majority 20%).
Authorized: Garnacha Blanca, Moscatel Romano, Parellada and Chardonnay.
Red: Preferred: Garnacha Tinta (majority 55%), Tempranillo, Mazuela (or Cariñena).
Authorized: Juan Ibáñez, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Monastrell, Vidadillo and Merlot. |
